Raízes em Movimento | Educação na Natureza

LEARNING COMMUNITY IN NATURE

3–6 years | Barreiro • LiberArte Space

A nature-based learning space for children aged 3 to 6, where time, relationships and experience are at the centre of the educational journey.

Inspired by participatory pedagogies and the Forest School approach, this project offers a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment to grow, explore and learn.

What is this project?

Nature-Based Education | 3–6 years

The Raízes em Movimento Learning Community is an educational programme designed as a complement to each child’s individual path.

Here, learning emerges through experience, curiosity and relationships, with others, with the environment and with oneself.

Pedagogical Approach

We are inspired by participatory pedagogies, where the child is recognised as competent, curious, capable of making decisions and an active participant in their own learning.

The adult takes on the role of facilitator, observer and learning partner, promoting a balance between freedom and structure while ensuring physical and emotional safety.

Pedagogical Influences

Our practice is inspired by different educational approaches that value the child’s holistic development:

Forest School

Learning in nature, autonomy, confidence and a deep relationship with the environment.

Reggio Emilia

Active listening to the child, emergent projects and valuing expression through multiple languages.

Project-Based Pedagogy

Learning through long-term projects, active investigation and children as explorers.

Core Principles

Connection with nature as the central context for all activities

Respect for each child’s individual rhythm

Learning through experience, art and exploration

Reflection as part of the learning process

Relationships as the foundation of learning and development

A balance between freedom and boundaries, creating a safe and challenging environment

Values That Guide Us

Respect

For others, oneself and the natural environment.

Autonomy

The ability to act, decide and participate responsibly.

Presence

Active listening, mindful attention and authentic connection.

Care & Affection

Safe, empathetic and meaningful relationships.

Risk

Conscious exploration of challenge, promoting confidence and development.

Community

Building trusting relationships and a sense of belonging.

What is a day in the community like?

Days in the community alternate between moments of free exploration, guided proposals and time for connection.

Throughout the day, children have opportunities to:

  • spend time in nature
  • play freely and explore at their own rhythm
  • participate in creative and expressive activities
  • engage in projects that emerge from their interests
  • cooperate, connect and build relationships

There is also time for breaks, meals and rest, respecting each child’s rhythm.

No rush. With time to explore, create and simply be a child.
